An investment analyst’s salary is set to rise to $865,000, up from $765,000 in 2018, according to an annual survey of the world’s largest investment firms.
The median pay is also up from last year.
“The survey results show that the world of investment management is still growing, but there is a huge difference between the world-class investment bankers and those who manage less than $100,000,” said the study, published by brokerage firm BNP Paribas.
The survey of 500 investment firms surveyed by the Financial Review asked investment analysts how they earn their living.
The research revealed that median annual pay is now $873,000.
“A significant part of the pay increase is driven by the growth in the size and scope of our global investment bank group, and the fact that our investment banks are now more globally integrated,” said investment analyst David Aarons.
“As a result, investment bank analysts are able to work with more investment banks, with greater access to the client base.”
The average analyst salary has risen by $30,000 to $875,000 this year.
The average salary in Australia is currently $827,000 but that is expected to rise as the number of investment banks grows.
BNP’s annual survey shows a slight increase in the median pay from $876,000 last year to $888,000 today.
Aaronson said that while the survey was an accurate reflection of the industry, it was not an accurate picture of the average investment banker.
“There is a big gap between the pay of investment bankers in Europe and those in Australia,” he said.
“They are paid a lot more than we are.”
Investment analyst salaries rise in 2019 Despite the rising pay, investment analyst salaries are set to continue to rise.
“While the pay rise is encouraging, it is important to remember that this is just a snapshot of how the market is trending.
“For example, the median salary for a senior investment banker was $875K in 2019, compared to $938K for a junior analyst,” he explained. “
BPI also reported that median salary growth for the investment banking industry is expected in 2019. “

BPI also reported that median salary growth for the investment banking industry is expected in 2019.
“In 2019, median annual compensation for senior investment bankers rose by $50K, while average annual compensation rose by just $25K,” he added.
“Senior investment bankers were also among the most highly paid in the industry.”
The report also revealed that investment bankers earn significantly more than their counterparts in other industries.
“Investment bankers earned $9.7 million more than other industry professionals, and were also more highly compensated than other professionals,” it said.
The rise in the average compensation of investment analysts has come at a time when the cost of living is becoming more expensive.
“It is not uncommon for the average Australian to earn $70,000 more than an analyst earning the same salary,” said Aarones.
