Real Madrid’s star player Florentio Perez has admitted he regrets his decision not to buy a home during his time in the club.
The 28-year-old played for Real Madrid for two seasons from 2004-06 before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2012.
However, he said he would never forget his decision to leave for the French capital in 2016, and has now admitted that he would have done the same had he known the market was at its peak in recent years.
“When I joined Real Madrid I wanted to be the best in the world,” Perez told a news conference in Paris.
“I would have loved to have a home in the capital.
I was so happy that I could stay in Paris, because the capital was so important to me.”
But that was not the case.
It was a decision I had to make.
I would never have done it if I knew the market in Paris was at it’s peak.””
My decision was not made lightly.
I wanted a good career, but I wanted something more.
“The defender made the comments after he admitted he made a mistake in the decision to move to Paris.
It was also revealed that the sale of his home in Paris had already been completed, and that the €5 million ($6.5 million) purchase price had been agreed upon with a consortium of buyers.”
The deal with the consortium was finalised in August, and we signed a contract with a bank in Paris,” Perez said.”
A few days ago we signed another contract with an institution that will take care of the final touches on the deal.
“At the moment we are in Paris but we have to wait for the bank to approve the sale, otherwise we will sell our house in Paris.”
In December, Real Madrid signed the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez to the likes-for-like deal, in a bid to bolster the backline.
However it was later revealed that a new deal for Gonzalo Higuain had also been completed for next season, with the Argentina international set to join the club in a deal worth €45 million ($56.5m).
Perez, who is still just 22, is the youngest player in the history of the club and has previously stated that he had “no regrets” for leaving Real Madrid in 2016.
“If I could take anything from Real Madrid, it is that they gave me the chance to be great,” Perez added.
“I’m so happy to have won two titles, two Copa del Rey titles, a European Super Cup and two La Liga titles.
I am very happy.
I don’t have regrets.”
